导出博客文章The Wrestling Federation of India has publicly and clearly backed Narsingh
Yadav, who has tested positive for banned substances, and said it hopes he will
represent India at the Rio Olympics. We believe Narsingh has been unfairly
targeted, WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said at a press conference in
New Delhi on Monday.Narsingh had tested positive in tests conducted by the
National Anti-Doping Agency, which announced its findings on Sunday. NADAs
inquiry process is being conducted by its Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel, which
is next due to meet on Wednesday, and Sharan said he hoped the inquiry would
clear him.The revelation put Narsinghs participation in the Rio Olympics --
where he is in the 74kg category -- in doubt. The details of the drug test will
only be revealed upon the end of the appeals process, as per the NADA protocol.
It is, however, understood that the alleged substance Narsingh has tested
positive for is the S1. anabolic agent methyldienolone, which is known to lead
to an increase in muscle and weight. It is a choice of substance found more
often in the positive tests of weightlifters.Sharan said the director-general of
the Sports Authority of India had heard about a threat to Narsingh and asked him
to practise elsewhere. Narsingh, Sharan said, had replied that he would rather
practise in Sonepat because the coaches were there, as were others going to the
Olympics and he would get sparring partners.Sonepat is a kushti (wrestling) hub,
the wrestlers are from nearby areas, Haryana, railways, Delhi, Sharan said.
However, I would think looking back that maybe the DG SAI was right at the time.
Something like this has not happened elsewhere in India, and maybe we didnt take
the threat issue that seriously.Explaining the sequence of events, Sharan said:
When Narsingh let us know on July 19 about the positive dope test, we
immediately informed the ministry and the government. There is a very good team
that has been appointed to monitor the situation.He said the case of Sandeep
Yadav, Narsinghs roommate who also tested positive, would be dealt with at the
same time and they expect the NADA judgement to be delivered on Wednesday.Sharan
spoke of Narsinghs exemplary record, having participated in more than 50
international and national events, and many dope tests. The people in NADA in
fact tell us that he is one of those athletes who doesnt have a moments
hesitation in being tested if he is asked. When he says he hasnt taken any drug
or contaminated substance, I will believe him. It is our duty to look after our
players and make them feel secure.Asked if this development meant that India had
lost its quota in the Olympics, Sharan said the WFI had been in touch with the
United World Wrestling and the IOA. We asked them to give us a chance, and
pointed out that the investigation was under way.We are not saying its a
conspiracy; Narsingh has made this complaint in a written statement. My personal
view is also that 120 athletes have qualified for Rio and he is the only one to
have been tested positive and that too with a drug which his sport has nothing
to do with. It is for muscle development and his muscles are fine.Reacting to
the controversy, Sushil Kumar tweeted that the dope scandal surrounding
Narsingh, who was picked ahead of him for the Rio Olympics, is unfortunate and

fair chance to defend himself, and his?dope case would be dealt as per
international rules with the strict implementation of the WADA code.?NADA is an
autonomous body established under the WADA code to promote clean sports and

implemented. We are committed to the WADA code. There will be justice under the
rules and beyond that there is nothing much we can do in this case.
