导出博客文章Nigel Clough has hailed Burtons remarkable promotion to the Sky Bet Championship
after drawing 0-0 with Doncaster on the final day on the season. The Brewers
needed at least a point to seal an instant jump into Englands second tier, and
managed to see out the game despite their rivals Walsall thrashing Port Vale
5-0. Clough originally joined the club when they were playing non-league
football during the 1998/99 season as a player-manager and returned earlier this
year after the departure of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to QPR. The former striker
has now lead the club he made over 200 appearances for over ten years into the
Championship for the first time in their history. When I was here before, we were
in the Southern League Premier Division, going to Weymouth and Dorchester and
having a bacon sandwich at 8am on a Saturday morning and all of a sudden, were
in the Championship. It is truly, truly remarkable, Clough told Sky Sports.
Burton players celebrate promotion to the Sky Bet Championship We saw the other
result coming through and we thought that we could afford to concede and its
fitting with all the clean sheets weve had that we secure it with a 0-0.We knew
we could get a clean sheet today and it would be enough. The lads have got
belief and thats what they can do. The previous two managers Gary Rowett and
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink have instilled that into them and thats what you saw
today. We were concerned about the winless run earlier in the season in some ways
but we kept grinding it out and those points are very important. I just said to
Tyler Walker, he got us a 93rd minute equaliser against Bury and that could have
been the goal that got us up. Highlights from Doncasters 0-0 draw with Burton
from Sky Bet League One which was enough to guarantee the Brewers promotion.
Burton go up to the Sky Bet Championship with a final tally of 85 points - two
behind eventual champions Wigan - and will be playing the likes of Aston Villa,
Leeds and Cloughs former side Nottingham Forest. But he isnt quite looking
forward to life in a new division just yet, with the staff and players set for a
celebration on Sunday evening.I havent even thought about next season, Clough
added. Were going to have one of the biggest parties in Burton tonight I think
its ever seen and were not even thinking about the Championship yet. Also See:

Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz will miss the rest of the season after having

Kevin Siegrist from the 15-day disabled list, adding a left-handed reliever to
the mix for the first series after the All-Star break. They havent ruled out
adding top prospect Alex Reyes, whose hit 101 mph while striking out four in two
innings starting for Team World in the Futures Game.General manager John
Mozeliak said Friday that the 21-year-old Reyes, who is at Triple-A Memphis,
will likely be a starter in the majors. The GM said its possible the Cardinals
could add Reyes for bullpen help or as part of a six-man rotation, or even to
provide a break for one of the other members of the rotation.Bullpen is a need
for the team heading into the Aug. 1 trade deadline. At some point Reyes could
come up here and work out of the bullpen or at some point we could decide to
give him a start or two, Mozeliak said. I think we just want to be open-minded
as we approach the next couple weeks.Mozeliak thought it might be more difficult
to make deals this year because its tough to determine which spot would benefit
from an upgrade.I think it might be a little bit harder than some years where
its just very glaring what we need to do, the GM said. The Cardinals will be
without All-Star Matt Carpenter, one of the top leadoff men in the majors, for
about a month with a strained right oblique.dddddddddddd First
baseman-outfielder Brandon Moss (sprained ankle) is still wearing a boot so hes
likely not close to returning. Both Mozeliak and manager Mike Matheny remained
bullish on the Cardinals chances of contending for a playoff spot. They led the
majors with 100 wins last year and have been to the postseason five consecutive
years. You think I changed my mind at the All-Star break? Matheny joked. No, I
wont back off what I think of this club and who we are. Nothings going to change
my mind on that, and nothing should change their minds.Right-handed reliever Sam
Tuivailala was optioned to Memphis.Siegrist, who turns 27 Wednesday, has been
out since June 30 with mononucleosis. He was 5-2, tied for the National League
lead in victories by a reliever.Siegrist had a 2.78 ERA and one save in 35
appearances covering 32 1/3 innings with 34 strikeouts.The 23-year-old
Tuivailala played in three games from July 3-6, allowing three runs in two
innings. ' ' '
