Seattle Storm beat the Washington Mystics 81-76 on Friday night in a critical
showdown between teams battling for the final playoff spot.The Storm (14-17) won
their third straight on the road to move into a tie for seventh place with
Phoenix, 1 /2 games in front of the Mystics (12-18) in the chase for the final
playoff spot.Ramu Tokashiki, who had 13 points, scored Seattles first seven
points of the fourth quarter to close a 16-1 run that put the Storm up 70-61.
The Mystics scored the next eight, the first six by Natasha Cloud, to make it a
one-point game.Jewell Loyds step-back 20-footer with 2:05 left made it 79-76 for
the Storm and both teams missed several chances before Loyds two free throws
with less than a second remaining iced it.Stewart had 10 rebounds, and the Storm
had a 36-26 advantage on the boards. Bird had nine assists and seven
rebounds.Emma Messeman led Washington, which scored 118 points in a win over
Chicago on Wednesday night, with 15 points.

physically dominated the contest. The following categories will be key in
deciding whether Cormier can change the result or if the main event of UFC 200
will be a repeat of their first fight.WrestlingAs a two-time Olympian in
freestyle wrestling, Cormier was assumed to have the grappling advantage heading
into their first fight. Despite his determination, Cormier was able to land only
one brief takedown on eight attempts. Jones, on the other hand, landed three of
five takedowns, becoming the first fighter to take down Cormier more than once
in a fight. To compete against Jones, Cormier will likely need to return to his
roots and drag the fight to the ground. He is at his best when he can mix up his
striking and wrestling, as he did on the way to winning the interim title over
Anthony Johnson.Striking defenseDuring his UFC career, Jones opponents have
often struggled to land against him. He allows his rivals only two significant
strikes landed per minute. Jones has a way of making his opponents underperform
compared to their demonstrated abilities. Since 2011, Jones has made all of his
opponents miss more often than their career striking accuracy average. The
drop-off in his opponents striking accuracy has been drastic in his last three
fights. Ovince Saint Preux and Cormier were both 13 percentage points under
their career norm, while Glover Teixeira finnished 17 percentage points below
his career striking accuracy.ddddddddddddCormier lands a very respectable 48
percent of his significant strikes, but he will likely struggle to score against
Bones.Height and reachA large part of Jones defense stems from his 84-inch
reach, one of the longest in the UFC. He uses his reach to make opponents pay
for attempting to close the distance and strike. His length allows him to score
with a series of unorthodox kicks before opponents can even get into normal
striking range. Cormier is five inches shorter than Jones and will need to
contend with a 12-inch reach disadvantage. Cormiers first challenge will be to
withstand Jones exterior barrage in order to close the distance and land power
shots.Ring rustFollowing his last fight at UFC 197, the prevailing wisdom was
that Jones underwhelming performance against Saint Preux stemmed from ring rust
due to his 476-day layoff between fights. However, from a numbers perspective,
it was a typical Bones performance. Against Saint Preux, he landed 4.20
significant strikes per minute, only a hair below his career number (4.25). His
striking accuracy and takedown accuracy that night were actually above his norm.
On the other hand, Cormier was extremely active in 2015 but is now returning
from an injury that forced him out of UFC 197. Despite having only one fight in
the past 19 months, Jones might have momentum on his side.
