导出博客文章Liverpool owner John Henry says fan protests against ticket prices are causing
the club to reassess plans to further redevelop Anfield.Henrys Fenway Sports
Group apologized to fans earlier this year and reversed planned rises in ticket
prices after a walkout during a game. But having funded the redevelopment of
Liverpools main stand over the last year, the next phase of the expansion
program might not make economic sense if the club cant recoup the construction
cost. The Anfield Road stand had been next in line for rebuilding at the
54,000-capacity Anfield.I dont know if there is a next step because ticket
prices are an issue in England, Henry said. That may foreclose further
expansion. Well have to see.Henry was speaking Tuesday at Yankee Stadium where
his baseball team, the Boston Red Sox, was playing the New York
Yankees.Liverpool has opened its first full season with Juergen Klopp in charge
by winning four of its six Premier League games. The German signed a contract
extension in July through 2022.He was a perfect fit for Liverpool, for the
culture of the club, for the supporters, for the kind of team that we were
trying to build, Henry said. We couldnt have asked for a better fit. With no
European matches this season, Liverpool is chasing a top-four finish to return
to the Champions League. From the 2018-19 season, entry into the Champions League
group stage is easier for English clubs with the Premier Leagues fourth-place
team no longer having to go through a playoff. The market pool system, which
steers UEFA prize money to clubs in England, Germany, and Italy, where the
broadcasting deals are bigger, will be changed to reward better historical
results in the competition. That should help Liverpool as a five-time European
champion but see income drop for Manchester City, which has never won the
continents top prize. The Champions League changes were agreed by a small number
of club officials and UEFA, with the rest of Europe not knowing the outcome
until the announcement in August.Henry said he was aware of other teams in
England obviously not happy with the UEFA deal. The changes werent really
discussed with us, they were implemented essentially. They unilaterally made
changes to the market pool and there should have been I think more discussion.
But I can tell you that the (Premier League) owners were not happy ... at least
among the clubs that I speak with.---AP Sports Writer Ronald Blum in New York

. -- James Young couldnt wait to apply those

it could be a good night. VAL DISERE, France -- Mathieu Faivre led a fierce
French challenge on first-run leader Marcel Hirscher of Austria to win a giant
slalom on Sunday for his first World Cup victory.Faivre secured the fastest
second run to beat Hirscher, the five-time defending World Cup overall winner
and a Val dIsere specialist, by 0.49 seconds.France placed four racers in the
top five, roared on by a noisy crowd that sang the French anthem -- La
Marseillaise -- when an emotional Faivre stood on the top step of the
podium.Faivre had 0.01 to make up from the first leg, and the 24-year-old racers
debut victory denied Hirscher a fifth GS win on this course since 2009.France
team leader Alexis Pinturault was third, trailing 1.11 behind the winner.
Teammates Thomas Fanara and Victor Muffat-Jeandet placed fourth and
fifth.Hirscher has now lost to two Frenchmen in defense of his season-long giant
slalom trophy after being runner-up to Pinturault in the season-opening race at
Soelden, Austria.Faivre, a former world junior champion, has had three podium
finishes in World Cup giant slalom in 2016 and Pinturault was alongside him each
time.In what has become the France teams top event, its streak of placing at
least one racer in the top-3 of mens giant slalom now extends to 14 World Cup
races since March 2015.France also got its only Alpine skiing medals at the 2014
Sochi Winter Games in mens GS, when Steve Missillier and Pinturault took silver
and bronze behind Olympic champion Ted Ligety.ddddddddddddLigety led a
five-strong United States challenge on Sunday in 11th, 2.63 back. He had been
the only racer other than Hirscher to win a Val dIsere GS in recent years. In his
return to racing amid a dispute with Norways ski federation, Henrik
Kristoffersen was eighth, trailing by 2.38.Kristoffersen, the World Cup slalom
winner last season, skipped a slalom at Levi, Finland, last month to protest
being blocked from wearing the helmet of a personal sponsor. The dispute is due
in court.Hirscher restored some Austrian pride after the teams embarrassing
showing in downhill on Saturday, when the traditional Alpine power placed no one
in the top 15.He now leads the overall standings after just five races of the
season. Kjetil Jansrud of Norway had been tied with Hirscher atop the overall
standings but did not finish the first run Sunday after winning the downhill and
super-G this weekend.Frances strong showing Sunday was fair reward for Val
dIsere stepping in to host the three-race meeting at short notice. It was
cancelled at Beaver Creek, Colorado, because of a lack of snow and warm
temperatures. The mens circuit stays in Val dIsere next weekend when the
highlight of two regularly scheduled races is a giant slalom on Saturday.
