导出博客文章PROVO, Utah -- Tennessee struggled to contain No. 10 BYUs high-powered offense
in a 5-2 loss before a packed house on Friday night at South Field in Provo,
Utah.Hannah Wilkinson scored both goals for the Volunteers (2-3) with tallies in
the 24th and 80th minutes. Those were her first goals since Nov. 7, 2014 when
she also scored a pair against Kentucky in the SEC Tournament semifinals. UTs
active scoring leader (58 points) missed all of 2015 with a knee injury suffered
in a preseason exhibition match. Wilkinson is now just one goal and seven points
away from cracking the top-10 all-time at Tennessee in both categories. The
Cougars scored just a minute and a half into the game and added a brace in the
24th minute to take an early two-goal advantage. Star forward Ashley Hatch
opened the scoring early with her sixth goal of the season to make it 1-0 in the
second minute.BYU (3-1) doubled its lead in the 24th minute on a goal from
Michele Vasconcelos, who beat Jamie Simmons low to her left from the left side
of the box.The Big Orange cut the lead in half in the 32nd minute on a beautiful
finish by Hannah Wilkinson for her first goal of the year and 23rd of her
Tennessee career. The New Zealand international took a pass in the box from
Rylie OKeefe and calmly chipped it past the keeper who was charging for the
ball.It didnt take long for the Cougars to retake their two-goal lead as Elena
Medeiros scored her first goal of the season just 43 seconds after Wilkinsons
goal. BYU took a 3-1 lead into the half after outshooting UT, 8-5, in the first
45 minutes. The Vols came out strong in the second half, controlling possession
and creating three corners early on. Their best chance came in the 49th minute,
with Maya Neal getting on the end of a Michele Christy free kick, but her
attempt was blocked close to goal by a BYU defender. The Cougars started to take
control towards the middle of the half and got another insurance goal in the
66th minute after Medeiros was taken down in the box to create a penalty kick
for BYU. Simmons saved the initial attempt but Hatch followed up her own shot
and buried the rebound to make it 4-1 Cougars with just over 25 minutes to
play. The Orange and White scored their second goal of the night in the 80th
minute to cut the lead to 4-2. Wilkinson dispossessed a BYU defender just
outside the box before dribbling in and firing a shot past a diving Hannah Clark
from about 15 yards out for her second goal of the contest.Once again the
Cougars responded quickly, scoring their fifth and final goal in the 86th
minute. Vasconcelos curled a ball into the top right corner of the net from just
inside the box to for her second goal of the game.Wilkinson led Tennessee with
three shots while OKeefe picked up her team-leading fourth assist in the loss.
Simmons made a season-high six saves on the night as the Vols were outshot
17-11. UT will look to bounce back as it wraps up a two-game road swing on
Sunday afternoon against American in Washington, D.C. Game time is set for 1
p.m. ET.

Georgia running back Nick Chubb has been cleared to play in the 18th-ranked
Bulldogs season opener against No. 22 North Carolina inside the Georgia Dome on
Saturday.Hes been cleared, coach Kirby Smart said during his weekly news
conference Monday. Its a situation where hes scrimmaged and done live things.
Had a lot of practices where hes carried it more than five or seven times. We
feel good about Nick, he feels great, and hes ready to go. He wont technically
be on a pitch count by any means.Chubb has been ahead of his rehab schedule for
months since he damaged several knee ligaments when he went down awkwardly on
his first carry against Tennessee in October. The junior, who has rushed for
2,294 yards and 21 touchdowns in less than two full seasons of work, will return
from his horrific knee injury less than a year later. He averaged an SEC-high 8.1
yards per carry last season and had a string of 13 straight 100-yard rushing
games before his injury.Sophomore defensive lineman DaQuan Hawkins-Muckle said
he has been impressed with Chubbs quick recovery and thinks hes actually been
more physical in preseason practices.Me looking at him, hes ready,
Hawkins-Muckle said. ... Hes even more physical than he was before. Nick Chubbs
always been a hard runner. ... Hes an even harder runner [now].While Chubbs
status for Saturdays game is confirmed, backup Sony Michels availability is
still up in the air. The sophomore is recovering from a fractured left forearm
he suffered over the Fourth of July weekend. Smart said that doctors have not
cleared Michel to tackle live, leaving his availability for Saturday unknown. The
situation is day-to-day, and were getting updates every day, Smart said. Hes
doing more. Hes practiced.Georgias depth chart lists senior Brendan Douglas, who
has 715 career rushing yards, or Chubb as the starters for Saturdays
game.Sophomore wide receiver Terry Godwin Jr.?said Chubbs return makes the
Bulldogs offense more formidable for opposing defenses, but it will also help
open up a passing game that features a host of unproven players. The defense that
were going play against, theyre always going to fear the run, knowing that we
have someone back there thats going to dominate the run, Godwin said.As for who
will be the first person throwing the ball for the Bulldogs thhis weekend, thats
still unknown.dddddddddddd Smart said senior Greyson Lambert and true freshman
Jacob Eason are taking the most reps in practice, and the starting job will come
down to those two. Junior Brice Ramsey has performed well in practice, Smart
said, but the other two have distanced themselves from him of late. Ramsey is
also listed as a punter on Georgias depth chart.Smart anticipates the
quarterback situation sorting itself out before Saturday, but he hasnt ruled out
possibly playing both Lambert and Eason against the Tar Heels.Well see how it
goes, Smart said. First thing we have to do is figure out whos taking the first
snap before we worry about the next guy coming in. I think itll reveal itself in
the next couple of days, and well continue to get those guys reps and get both
of those guys ready to play.Eason, who was the No. 1-rated quarterback in the
2016 recruiting class by ESPNs RecruitingNation, has seen his number of
first-team reps increase over the past month and is pegged as the future at the
position. Smart made it clear that he isnt opposed to starting the true freshman
right out of the gate if he proves to be the Bulldogs best option. Were going to
play the guy that gives us the best opportunity to win, Smart said. Weve stayed
firm on that the whole way through. I have no reservations about a guys age. If
youre old enough to play, then youre old enough to start. If youre good enough
to play, then youre good enough to start.Said Hawkins-Muckle of Eason: Hes
maturing faster than hes had to, but I feel like when he gets in and gets his
opportunity, hes going to get the job done.Smart also announced that suspended
defensive lineman Jonathan Ledbetter is still undergoing treatment for substance
abuse stemming from two alcohol-related arrests this year, including an arrest
on a DUI charge in July. Smart said Ledbetter is practicing and working out with
the team.Freshman defensive lineman Julian Rochester is available to play
Saturday, Smart said. Rochester was arrested along with now-dismissed defensive
back Chad Clay in April on felony charges of possessing a weapon (BB gun) in a
school zone and second-degree criminal damage to property.
