导出博客文章PITTSBURGH -- Ben Roethlisberger and Eli Manning are inextricably linked. Taken
11 picks apart in the 2004 NFL draft, the two quarterbacks have spent the last
dozen years watching each other from afar, using the others success as a
measuring stick of their own accomplishments. The resumes are nearly identical.
Two Super Bowl victories. Four Pro Bowls apiece. A steady ascension into the
upper stratosphere of the NFL record books. Both are already in the top 10 in
career touchdown passes, with Roethlisberger on the cusp of joining Manning in
the top 10 in all-time yards passing.Just dont call it a rivalry. When they take
the same field for just the fourth time as professionals on Sunday when Manning
and the streaking New York Giants (8-3) visit Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh
Steelers (6-5), the focus will be on keeping pace in a frenetic playoff race,
not trying to match each others stats.I dont know if there is any extra
motivation, Roethlisberger said. Just trying to win a football game against one
of the best teams in football should be motivation enough. In an alternate
universe, Roethlisberger might have been the guy behind center wearing Big
Blue. For a few minutes during draft day in 2004, he thought he was heading to
New York with the fourth overall pick. Instead, the Giants took Philip Rivers,
then shipped Rivers to San Diego as part of a megadeal that sent Manning -- the
top overall pick -- to New York. Roethlisberger, wearing a black pinstriped suit
with a gold tie, heard his name called a little over an hour later when
Pittsburgh used a first-round pick on a quarterback for just the fifth time in
franchise history. He doesnt spend a lot of time thinking about what might have
been. Neither does Manning. Thats for others. You always want your quarterback
draft class to be well thought of and respected down the road, Manning said. You
hear about the 83 draft class and other certain years. You want to be thrown in
that mix someday.Just not yet. Both in their mid-30s and signed through the rest
of the decade. Maybe theyll reunite at the Hall of Fame one day, though
Roethlisberger stressed hopefully thats a long way off. Some things to look for
as the Giants seek their seventh straight win while Pittsburgh tries to begin
another December run like the ones that propelled the Steelers to the playoffs
in each of the last two seasons.JPP IS BACK: Jason Pierre-Paul has had 5+ sacks,
two forced fumbles and a fumble return for a touchdown in his last two games,
along with 12 tackles. The end is the current NFC defensive player of the week
for his career-high three sacks, forced fumble and 43-yard fumble return for a
touchdown against Cleveland. The seven-year veteran is the first NFL player with
at least three sacks and a fumble-return touchdown of at least 40 yards in the
same game since 1982, the first year individual sacks became an official
statistic. He is the first Giants player with at least three sacks and a
touchdown in the same game since George Martin on Nov. 24, 1985.HOMECOMING: New
York coach Ben McAdoo grew up in Homer City, Pennsylvania, about an hour east of
Pittsburgh. This isnt the first time hes found himself going up against his
childhood team. His family put together half-Steelers/half-Green Bay Packers
jerseys for the 2011 Super Bowl when McAdoo was the tight ends coach for Green
Bay. A win on Sunday would make him the first rookie head coach to win seven
consecutive games since Jim Harbaugh did it with San Francisco in 2011.KICKING
IT: Giants punter Brad Wing had his best game of the season against the Browns
with a net average of 44.7 yards on nine punts, landing a career-high five
inside the 20-yard line. Placekicker Robbie Gould isnt so hot. The veteran
signed after the release of Josh Brown last month has missed three extra points
in the past two games. He needs to start hitting them if he wants to keep his
job. He has hit both of his field goal attempts in five games.AB vs. OBJ: The
game will feature two of the NFLs most talented (and most flamboyant) wide
receivers in Antonio Brown and Odell Beckham Jr. Browns 10 touchdown receptions
are tied for the NFL lead; Beckham is tied for fourth with eight. Both are also
featured in the punt return game. Asked when Beckham is at his most dangerous,
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin responded whenever they snap the ball.---AP Sports

BAY, Wis. -- The Dallas Cowboys dynamic rookie duo is showing no signs of
slowing down.Quarterback Dak Prescott beat the Green Bay Packers depleted
secondary through the air. Running back Ezekiel Elliott wore the defense down on
the ground.Prescott threw three touchdown passes and Elliott pounded away at the
Packers for 157 yards on 28 carries in Dallas 30-16 road win Sunday.Thats how we
play with our physical style, Elliott said. A lot of teams, they dont want to
bang in there for four quarters and as the game goes on, we get stronger and
they get a little bit weaker. The surging Cowboys (5-1) won their fifth straight
with Prescott and Elliott reaching new milestones.Elliott now has 703 yards
rushing, the second-most in a players first six career games behind only Eric
Dickerson (787). Elliott also became the only rookie to rush for at least 130
yards in four consecutive games.Prescott was 18 of 27 for 247 yards. He shook
off two fumbles -- losing one -- and an interception to lead Dallas on a
seven-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that ended with a 4-yard touchdown pass to
Cole Beasley for an 18-point lead with 10:26 left over Green Bay (3-2).Prescott
is starting for veteran Tony Romo, who injured his back in the preseason. Romo
seems to be getting healthier and could be close to returning. Following a bye,
the Cowboys next play on Oct. 30 against the Philadelphia Eagles.Prescott is
making coach Jason Garretts impending decision on whether to go back to Romo
tougher every week. This is his team. This is Tonys team and Im just here to help
my team win each and every game that I can, Prescott said. There is no
quarterback controversy in Green Bay, though there are plenty of questions about
the state of the passing game.Four turnovers ultimately doomed the Packers. But
once again, drops were a problem a few times with receivers. Quarterback Aaron
Rodgers was 31 of 42 for 294 yards, but also accounted for two turnovers with an
interception and fumble.Taking care of the ball, thats the No. 1 priority. We
had opportunities today and gave it up, and multiple times, and thats never been
something weve done here, receiver Jordy Nelson said. So weve got to get that
fixed quickly.Other notes and takeaways from Sundays game:BOO BIRDS: Even
Rodgers wasnt immuune from the uncharacteristic boos from Packers fans at times
directed at the struggling offense.ddddddddddddLook, were upset, theyre upset,
its part of it, Rodgers said of the booing. Its not the first time. Probably
wont be the last time. The Packers didnt get into the end zone until Rodgers and
Cobb connected on a 6-yard touchdown pass with 6:53 left to get within
27-16.RECORD STREAK OVER: Prescott threw the first interception of his career
after he was picked off on third-and-8 from the Dallas 6, throwing out of his
end zone with 20 seconds left in third quarter. Safety Morgan Burnett had the
diving interception. Prescotts NFL-record streak for a quarterback at the start
of his career without an interception ended at 176 pass attempts. He broke the
mark of 162 previously held by New Englands Tom Brady earlier in the
game.STRENGTH VS. STRENGTH: Dallas dented Green Bays league-best run defense .
The Cowboys rushed for 93 yards in the first half against the Packers, which was
already a season high against Green Bay. The Packers had been allowing 42.8
yards per game entering Sunday, while Dallas was averaging a league-best 155.2
yards per game.Whether its winning your 1-on-1 matchups or getting off blocks or
just finishing the play, really, overall it just wasnt good enough, Packers
linebacker Clay Matthews said.LATE TURNAROUND: After a three-and-out late in the
second quarter for the Packers, the Cowboys went on five-play, 97-yard scoring
drive in just 33 seconds, ending with Prescotts 20-yard touchdown pass to Brice
Butler. The score gave Dallas an 11-point lead and momentum going into
halftime. It was Dallas longest touchdown drive since a three-play, 98-yard
scoring drive against the St. Louis Rams on Oct. 23, 2011.THINNED OUT: The
Packers thin secondary, which was already without CBs Sam Shields (concussion)
and Quinten Rollins (groin), lost CB Damarious Randall in the second quarter
after he aggravated a groin injury. McCarthy has already ruled out Rollins for
Thursday nights game against Chicago.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and
