Is It Normal for 4WD to Feel Different It for Months?

I recently took my SUV on a weekend trip that included a few sandy roads, and it was the first time I had used the 4WD system in almost a year. Something felt a little off when I switched modes. The vehicle still moved fine, but there was a slight hesitation and a faint mechanical sound that I don't remember hearing before. Since I mostly drive in the city, I rarely use the four wheel drive system, so I'm not sure if this is normal after long periods of inactivity or if it's a sign that something needs attention. I spent some time reading about transfer cases and drivetrain components and realized there are more moving parts involved than I originally thought. During my search I came across discussions mentioning Competent Part Time 4WD Repair in Shahama, which made me wonder how often occasional 4WD users run into issues simply because the system isn't engaged regularly. Has anyone experienced something similar after leaving their 4WD unused for a long time? I'm trying to figure out whether I should get it inspected now or just use it more often and see if the feeling disappears on its own.
