Many people consider TAG Heuer Monaco to be one of the most iconic watches in the TAG Heuer workshop. It's style, originality, and above all, a sporty look that looks just as good under the cuffs as on a racer's firesuit. When we realized earlier this year that TAG Heuer would celebrate the 50th anniversary of Monaco, I thought it would culminate in a brilliant reissue or a series of commemorative events. TAG Heuer took the opposite approach and announced the release of five personal watches, each celebrating the tenth anniversary of Monaco.
The first was a decade, when people landed on the moon, and then Apple released the first personal computer. On the track in Monaco, we saw Graham Hill winning the last of his five Monaco Grand Prix in 1969 with Jody Scheckter Driving his big man Ferrari won the iconic 2.074-mile circuit, ending a decade. From a chronological point of view, the fastest lap in 1969 was Jackie Stewart's timing of 1: 24.6. In the following decade, the chronological clock did not change much. The 2019 pole position was only 1: 10.166. The chronograph clock of 1969? TAG Heuer Stopwatch. Clock for 2019? TAG Heuer digital stopwatch.
The first Monaco model celebrating the 50th anniversary of Monaco was called the 1969–1979 limited edition. This 39mm square stainless steel case arrives with a rich green pattern on the unique Geneva rippled dial. The power source of the watch is the TAG Heuer Calibre 11 automatic movement, which is the same as the original Monaco movement.
