导出博客文章DETROIT -- Moral victories wont put the Detroit Tigers in the playoffs, but this
was one loss with a clear silver lining.Anibal Sanchez pitched effectively into
the seventh inning before Minnesota finally broke through, and the Twins went on
to beat the Tigers 6-2 on Tuesday night. Sanchez struck out 10 in only his
second quality start of the season. He did an outstanding job -- thats probably
as good an outing as hes had this season, Detroit manager Brad Ausmus said. He
did give up three runs, but two of those were after he was out of the game. He
had really good fastball command, and thats big for him.Tommy Milone held
Detroit scoreless until the ninth, and the Twins scored five runs in the
seventh.Brian Dozier hit a two-run homer, Eduardo Nunez had three RBI and Milone
(3-2) breezed through the Detroit lineup until the ninth, when the Tigers
finally chased him from the game. Down 6-0 at the start of the inning, Detroit
scored twice and actually had the tying run at the plate with one out when James
McCann came up with the bases loaded against Brandon Kintzler.McCann and Jose
Iglesias both struck out to end it.Milone allowed two runs and four hits in 8
1/3 innings. The Tigers had only one hit before the ninth. This was Milones
longest outing since July 5, 2013, when he also went 8 1/3 innings for Oakland
against Kansas City.Sanchez (5-11) allowed three runs in six-plus innings, an
encouraging sign for Detroit after he entered the game with a 6.75 ERA. Sanchez
allowed seven hits and two walks. His line would have been even better, but the
two runners on base when he was pulled in the seventh both came around to
score.Sanchez received a warm ovation when he left the game, and he raised his
glove to acknowledge the fans. They deserve more than Ive given them this year,
he said. Hopefully, I can keep throwing the ball the way I did today, and we can
get some wins.Nunez opened the scoring in the third with a sacrifice fly, and
Sanchez and Milone were locked in an impressive duel until the Detroit
right-hander allowed a walk and a single to start the seventh. Bruce Rondon came
on in relief, and after a sacrifice bunt, Nunez poked a two-run single to
center.Nunez stole second and scored on Joe Mauers two-out single. Dozier
followed with his 16th homer of the season to make it 6-0.LAST-DITCH RALLYMilone
allowed consecutive singles to Cameron Maybin, Miguel Cabrera and Victor
Martinez to start the bottom of the ninth. He came out of the game after a
sacrifice fly by Nick Castellanos made it 6-2.Kintzler came on and allowed a
single by Justin Upton and an infield single by Mike Aviles before retiring
McCann and Iglesias. To have a good night and have it come, the tying run up to
the plate there, it gets your attention pretty fast, Twins manager Paul Molitor
said. But he made some really quality pitches those last two hitters.TRAINERS

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Mark Buehrle calls it luck. Manager John Gibbons calls it
anything but luck. Either way, theyll both take the outcome. Buehrle allowed
five hits over seven innings, Jose Bautista and Emilio Bonifacio each homered
and the Toronto Blue Jays ended Oaklands winning streak at four with a 5-0
victory over the Athletics on Tuesday night. "The first three innings there were
not too many quiet outs, Buehrle said. "Thats why its the whole luck thing. If
I, in a different ballpark, I might be out of the game by then." Colby Rasmus
also drove in a run and Edwin Encarnacion had two hits as Toronto improved to
11-5 against the AL West. Derek Norris and Jed Lowrie each had two hits for the
As, who acquired third baseman Alberto Callaspo from the Angels for infielder
Grant Green in a trade announced during the game. Callaspo was hitting .253 with
five home runs and 36 RBIs entering Tuesday. Buehrle (7-7) extended his
scoreless innings streak to 20, did not walk a batter and struck out two. He
retired 10 of the first 11 batters he faced five days after tossing a two-hit
shutout against the Houston Astros. "He does everything right," Gibbons said.
"Hes old reliable. Hes been around for a while and has had a tremendous career."
Buehrle thought he had given up a home run to Coco Crisp, the games first
batter. He also thought Josh Reddick got him in the third. Both balls died on
the warning track. "You still have to make your pitches and hit location and it
is still a lot of luck," said Buehrle, who has won at least 10 games in each of
the last 12 years. "This is a tough place to hit at night." As manager Bob
Melvin was impressed with Buehrles craftiness. "We just couldnt get anything
going against Buehrle," Melvin said. "Even though he doesnt throw hard, he
bullies the right-handers in with cutters and throws changeups, back-door
breaking balls, and keeps you off balance." Dan Straily (6-5) lost his third
straight decision, giving up five runs -- two eaarned -- on six
hits.dddddddddddd. He walked two and struck out two. "You saw some two-strike
hits, which means he probably wasnt as precise as he needs to be, especially
when hes ahead," Melvin said. "Then he got some balls in the middle of the
plate." Blue Jays right-hander Steve Delabar struck out the side in the eighth
on nine pitches and leads all AL relievers with 70 strikeouts. "You cant get any
more dominating than that," Gibbons said. "You dont see that too often."
Bautistas two-out home run in the first put Toronto on the board. The Blue Jays
added an unearned run in the fourth. Encarnacion, Adam Lind and Rasmus hit
consecutive singles, with Yeonis Cespedes misplaying the ball in left field,
allowing Encarnacion to score. Bonifacio led off the fifth with a home run.
Jose Reyes walked and Maicer Izturis was safe when Adam Rosales threw wildly.
Reyes scored on the play. Rasmus added an RBI single. The Blue Jays improved to
11-21 since their major league-best 11-game winning streak. Darren Oliver
pitched the ninth and went over the 1,900-inning mark for his career. "Hes had a
marvelous career that speaks for itself," Gibbons said. "Hes a lot like Buehrle.
They both keep answering the bell." NOTES: As INF Eric Sogard was credited with
a single in the first inning of Monday nights game, with the error taken away
from Edwin Encarnacion. It gives Sogard an eight-game hitting streak. ... As LHP
Brett Anderson (foot) threw 57 pitches in a side session. Hell likely throw live
