Los Angeles quarterback Jared Goff makes his highly anticipated debut when the Rams host the Miami Dolphins on Sunday at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The Rams fan base has not-so-patiently awaited this moment, but the time has come for the No. 1 pick in this springs NFL draft out of the University of California.I felt like this was the best time to go ahead and turn the keys over to Jared, Los Angeles coach Jeff Fisher said. Were excited for him. He had a good day (at practice). Hes into the plan, hes really excited. The position is not easy to play, as weve seen around the league. A lot of good quarterbacks took their lumps last weekend, but we got confidence in him, as the offense does. Well get him prepared to play.Goff replaces Case Keenum, who has not played well for most of the season as the offense scored 10 points or fewer in five games. The Rams (4-5) were held without an offensive touchdown for the third time this season in a 9-6 victory over the Jets in New York last week.Los Angeles ranks last in scoring at 15.4 points per game and the Keenum-led offense is 31st in total offense with an average of 308 yards.Goff makes his debut at home before the Rams play at New Orleans and at New England in Weeks 12 and 13.The Dolphins (5-4) made Southern California their home this week instead of flying back and forth across the country after defeating the San Diego Chargers 31-24. Miami practiced in north San Diego County. The Rams halted a four-game losing streak by defeating the Jets while the Dolphins are winners of four straight.Miamis offense is finally hitting on all cylinders under first-year head coach Adam Gase but faces a tough challenge from the Los Angeles defense. The Gregg Williams-led unit ranks seventh in the NFL in total yards allowed at 327 per contest and 10th in points allowed at 19.2.Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill has played some of the best football of his career during the winning streak and has thrown 109 consecutive passes without an interception. The former Texas A&M star also has four touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 103.6 passer rating during the run. Tannehills success has his coach raving about him.Said Gase: The guy (Tannehill) is a beast. He just stands back there. There was one of them he threw, I thought he was pressured a little bit, and he got rid of the ball and he comes in and he says, I have to stay in there. He just has some kind of toughness where he just is going to stand in there. He takes a shot. He takes care of his body and hes able to bounce back up.At the start of the 2016 season, no one except perhaps Dolphins running back Jay Ajayis family members believed hed be ranked sixth in the NFL in rushing and outgaining Rams running back Todd Gurley by 210 yards.Ajayi averages 5.7 yards per carrry, good for 725 yards this season. Gurleys average is 3.1 yards. The going could be tough for Ajayi this week with left tackle (wrist) out and center Mike Puncey (hip) doubtful. Gurler has been bothered by a thigh injury. While Ajayi has been a godsend to a Dolphins offense that lost Arian Foster to injury, then retirement, Gurley and the Rams rushing attack has been a disappointment to the team and Rams fans alike. There may be hope for Gurley this week, though. The Dolphins are 30th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed at 128.8 per contest and with a rookie quarterback getting his first NFL start, the Rams hope Gurley can take advantage.

OXFORD, Miss. -- Deandre Burnett hit 5 of 6 free throws in the final two minutes and finished with 21 points and Mississippi held off Montana for an 86-81 win on Thursday night.Cullen Neal added 19 points, including five 3-pointers, Terence Davis scored 18 points, and Sebastian Saiz had 17 points and 13 rebounds.Sayeed Pridgett led Montana (1-5) with 19 points. Ahmaad Rorie added 18 points and Jack Lopez scored 17.Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy was pleased with his teams offense, but the Rebels struggles on the defensive end were clearly at the forefront of his mind Thursday.Defensively, theres a recurring theme, Kennedy said. Were giving up 12 made 3-pointers a game at 45 percent. It went down a little bit tonight (Montana was 12-for-33 from the 3-point line, good for 36.4 percent). Were making a lot of mistakes as it relates to guarding the ball, which creates unnecessary rotations and then the thing that infuriates me -- and Im not supposed to be mad on Thanksgiving -- is the scouting report errors. In the gym tonight, you could hear us yelling, `Dont leave. Hes a shooter, and we leave. We have to have a little more personal accountability as it pertains to preparing for the game.Ole Miss led by as many as 18 points midway through the second half, taking a 62-44 lead on Saizs traditional 3-point play. Montana got as close as 81-76 in the final minute. However, Lopez missed a 3-pointer that would have pulled the Grizzlies within one possession, and the Rebels converted at the free throw line over the final 30 seconds to seal it.Im happy we competed and Im happy we found some grit and didnt give up, Montana coach Travis DeCuire said. We could have easily laid down and lost by 25 or 30. We made some mental errors in the first half and the beginning of the second half that put us in that situation. Once we stopped making mistakes and started competing and crashing the glass, we out-played them in the last 10 minutes. But sometimes teams get a lead and they dont do what theyre supposed to do either, but I did think we grew up a little bit todday.ddddddddddddOle Miss led by 12 at halftime after building a 14-point lead in the first half, thanks primarily to the 3-point shooting of Neal and Davis, each of whom hit three treys in the opening 20 minutes. The Rebels shot 45.2 percent overall and made 11 of 26 from 3-point range.Im pleased with us offensively, Kennedy said. Were scoring in the high 80s consistently and were doing it in an efficient manner. Turnovers continue to come down. If we eliminate some of the foolish ones, were decent in that area. We just have to continue to work.BIG PICTUREMontana: The Grizzlies have been on the road since Nov. 14, and they showed some signs of fatigue at times Thursday, committing 19 turnovers and shooting just 38.4 percent from the field.Ole Miss: Admission was free on Thursday in Oxford, and the Rebels drew a surprisingly large holiday crowd of 7,358 fans. At 5-1 with games against Middle Tennessee and Memphis coming up in the next eight days, the Rebels, who gave No. 11 Creighton a scare on Monday night in the Virgin Islands, have a chance to make some national noise with wins.ROLE PLAYER: Davis role increased on Thursday with Ole Miss guard Rasheed Brooks struggling. Brooks did not score in 19 minutes, going 0 for 6 from the field. Kennedy said Brooks has been distracted the past couple of days due to personal reasons. Davis played 24 minutes, many coming as a result of Brooks struggles, and made 6 of 9 shots. Davis added five rebounds and an assist.HE SAID IT: Theyre a phenomenal team. Theyre playing at a high level right now. They have a lot of guys who do a lot of things. They have athleticism. They can shoot. They have one of the better point guards in the country (Neal). Theyre going to win a lot of games. I think thats a team that can contend in the SEC. -- DeCuire on Ole Miss.UP NEXTMontanas road trip concludes Sunday afternoon at South Dakota.Ole Miss plays host to Middle Tennessee Wednesday night.
