导出博客文章Undefeated UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov has demanded the next title shot
against newly crowned champion Conor McGregor. And one of Nurmagomedovs coaches
believes McGregor is already doing what he can to avoid the fight. After knocking
out Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in New York on Saturday, McGregor (21-3) didnt seem
interested in a fight against Nurmagomedov (24-0), who submitted Michael Johnson
on the same night. The Irish star claimed that Nurmagomedov, who missed all of
2015 due to injury, hasnt fought frequently enough to warrant a title
shot.Nurmagomedovs striking coach, Javier Mendez of American Kickboxing Academy,
took exception to that claim.Yes, 100 percent, he is ducking Khabib, Mendez told
ESPN.com. I know that from the words he is saying. He doesnt fight enough for my
taste? Give me a break. You can say, Hey, I want to fight Nate Diaz a third time.
Fine. Say that. But dont try to put my guy down because you are trying to avoid
him. Dont belittle my guy. Thats bulls---.Nurmagomedov, who is originally from
the Russian region Dagestan, made a loud statement at UFC 205. He literally
demanded the next title shot during the fight while he was hitting Johnson with
strikes on the ground. There was even an exchange between Nurmagomedov and UFC
president Dana White after the second round. Nurmagomedov believes the UFC used
him to book the title fight between McGregor and Alvarez.Hes talking to Dana
from the corner after the second round, saying, Dont send me any more bulls---
contracts, Mendez said. Danas laughing, saying, Just take care of what you got
in front of you. And Khabib says, Dont worry about that. Im taking care of that.
You know who the real champ is.Mendez, who also trains current light heavyweight
champion Daniel Cormier and former champs Cain Velasquez and Luke Rockhold, said
he felt that McGregor received favorable matchups early in his career. He
changed his mind last year, when McGregor agreed to fight Chad Mendes on short
notice. He hopes he wasnt wrong in changing his mind. When he fought Chad Mendes,
I thought it proved he wasnt ducking anybody, Mendez said. But now hes doing
this and Im thinking hes trying to avoid Khabib. I think Khabib, [lightweight
contenders] Nate Diaz and Tony Ferguson all give Conor a hell of a fight -- but
the guy who gives him the worst time, by far, is Khabib. Hes the strongest
grappler in the division.Nurmagomedov, 28, has said that if the UFC denies him a
title shot, he wont fight for the organization again. As far as Mendez knows,
Nurmagomedov is serious about it.Thats what he has said this whole time, Mendez
said. And its not about fighting Conor. He doesnt care if he fights Conor. He
wants to fight for the title. He has no beef with any fighter out there. He
wants the title to prove hes the best, and he wants to defend it against the
best.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has reason to feel a little
unsettled as his team begins preparations for the 2016 season. He has to find
replacements for his best offensive player, his best defensive player and other
key parts of a squad that finished 12-1 last year and ranked No. 4 in the
nation.Ezekiel Elliot, one of the best running backs in Buckeyes history,
departed early for the NFL, as did defensive end Joey Bosa. Both were stalwarts
in the 2014 national championship run and right on through last season. Just six
starters from last year will be in camp this fall. The good news: Quarterback
J.T. Barrett enters a season as the undisputed starter for the first time after
taking over for Cardale Jones at mid-season last year. In 2014, Barrett led the
Buckeyes to an 11-1 record before breaking his ankle in the Michigan game and
giving way to Jones, who led the team to the national title.I anticipate he will
be as good a quarterback as weve had, Meyer said. Its his show and he knows it,
and hes prepared.Middle linebacker Raekwon McMillan, a second-team All-American
who was one of the Big Tens top tacklers, will anchor a defense with a ton of
potential -- including Bosas little brother, Nick, an incoming freshman
defensive lineman.Freshmen and other inexperienced players will see extensive
playing time on both sides of the ball and must perform for the Buckeyes to have
success. A true freshman might even start on the offensive line, an exceedingly
rare occurrence at Ohio State. But that doesnt necessarily mean it will be a
rebuilding year for the Buckeyes. For Meyer, a master recruiter, its always a
matter of waiting for the next crop of All-Americans to come of age and take
over the team.We have a lot of momentum here at Ohio State right now, he said.
We cant lose it just because we lost some great players. Some things to watch as
the season aarrives:THE GROUND GAMEWith Elliott now in camp with the Dallas
Cowboys, Ohio State enters fall practice without an established running
back.dddddddddddd. The teams most experienced back, fifth-year senior Brionte
Dunn, was dismissed last month for violating an unspecified team rule. That
leaves redshirt freshman Mike Weber and true freshman Antonio Williams, both
highly regarded prep players Meyer has raved about. Weber likely will be the
starter, and look for H-back Curtis Samuel to get a share of the touches,
too.ABOUT THOSE RECEIVERSOhio States three best receivers from 2015 are gone.
The four players expected to step up as top pass-catchers -- Noah Brown, Corey
Smith, Dontre Wilson and Samuel -- were recovering from injuries and didnt
participate in spring practice, opening the door for youngsters like Terry
McLaurin, Parris Campbell and Torrance Gibson, all of whom had their shining
moments in the spring game. Meyer needs one of them to emerge as the guy who can
consistently get open and catch the deep ball.KEY GAMESSept. 17 at Oklahoma;

OPENERSept. 3 vs. Bowling Green: The Buckeyes may have to work up a sweat
dispatching the Falcons, one of the Mid-American Conferences better teams. Its
the first of two tuneup games Ohio State will play at home before traveling to
Oklahoma for an early-season showdown.PREDICTIONDespite losing a lot of
experienced players, the Buckeyes have the talent to remain among college
footballs elite teams. An 11-1 finish seems likely, with potential stumbles at
Wisconsin or perhaps against Michigan.---Online:AP College Football website:
