Former Springboks captain Victor Matfield insists South Africa must adopt similar structures to the All Blacks in order to compete at the top of world rugby.Having played the majority of his career with the Bulls, with stints at Toulon and Northampton Saints in the Northern Hemisphere, Matfield believes the knowledge lost from departed players has been to the detriment of player development in South Africa.South Africa allowing players to play overseas and picking them for the Springboks is very good for the players but thats where New Zealand got it right, Matfield told Stuff.co.nz. By keeping your senior players in the country they give all that knowledge back to the youngsters and have a big influence in Super Rugby. That creates a healthy environment. You see New Zealand with Richie McCaw, Dan Carter or Kieran Read now what they give to the younger players is invaluable. Seeing how they train and how they approach each week that is the kind of thing you want to carry on; to see the values and what it means.Of last Saturdays starting 15 that defeated Australia, Bryan Habana, Francois Hougaard, Morné Steyn, Francois Louw and Vincent Koch are all based in the Northern Hemisphere. Matfield believes the fact they are not based in South Africa is contributing to the poor run of international and Super Rugby teams. Were not competing because we dont have our best players in the country in Super Rugby and that makes everything tougher. Its difficult. Its not for me to say how they should create that policy but I think its one thing that could definitely help our cause.Matfield recalled former New Zealand coach John Mitchell being at a meeting with all the Kiwi Super Rugby coaches where they decided which direction they wanted to go. Its not how it plays out in South Africa as they prepare to face the All Blacks this weekend.Thats not happening in South Africa. Were definitely behind the All Blacks at the moment and we need to catch up. For world rugby its important that other teams compete with the All Blacks. Except for England I still believe South Africa are the one team that can beat New Zealand when they get things right on the day. At home the Boks always have a chance. Want to play some quarterback musical chairs?Ive looked into my crystal ball to come up with some projections on starting quarterbacks for 2017. These arent projections for the starting jobs that will have mainstays back again. Everyone knows Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Russell Wilson and Drew Brees will be starters, for instance. No, these are projections for the jobs?in which I think there will be a new starter, or jobs that?could have a new starter. Here we go, leading off with Buffalo, Chicago and Cleveland:New starters in 2017Buffalo BillsProjected 2017 starter:?Mike GlennonIm projecting thhe Bills to move on from?Tyrod Taylor?because I dont think they see him as an $18 million-a-year franchise quarterback.ddddddddddddThey could get out of his contract after the season for a small cap hit. Taylor is 14-13 as a starter in his career, and he hasnt gotten an endorsement from the front office or Rex Ryan, who might be out after the season. Taylors completion percentage has dropped from 63.7 percent to 60.6, and his yards per attempt are down from 8.0 to 6.8. ' ' '
