Bulldogs - Brad AbbeyWhen the Bulldogs lured Brad Abbey from the Warriors at the
end of 2015 it was seen as a major coup and the electrifying fullback could show
why in 2017.The young Kiwi could be the big winner from Will Hopoates no-play on
Sunday decision due to his religious beliefs and once he gets his chance there
may be no looking back.Canberra Raiders - Kato OttioThe 2016 season was Kato
Ottios first at Canberra after moving from his native Papua New Guinea and he
couldnt have made a better impression. Blessed with a devastating combination of
size and speed, Ottio racked up 29 tries in 23 games for the Raiders feeder club
Mounties.His season was interrupted by an ACL injury sustained late in the
season but an NRL debut wont be far away once he returns to the field in
2017.Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks -?Jayden BraileyMichael Ennis is the only player
from the Sharks Grand Final-winning team that wont be at the club in 2017 but
Jayden Brailey represents a ready-made replacement.The local junior represented
the Australian Schoolboys in 2014, was named in the 2015 NYC Team of the Year
and could make the No.9 jumper his own for a long time,?Gold Coast Titans -?Greg
LeleisiuaoGreg Leleisiuao is an explosive runner of the ball - so much so that
he was compared to Greg Inglis in 2015 when just 18-years-old. The Auckland-born
speedster is yet to make his NRL debut but gave a clear insight into his
potential with a number of impressive performances in the 2016 Auckland Nines.As
a former hip hop dancer,?Leleisiuao is clearly quick on his feet and with the
Titans losing a number of outside backs such as Nene Macdonald, David Mead,?Josh
Hoffman and Brian Kelly, 2017 may present him with a golden opportunity to
establish his NRL career.Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles - Peter SchusterPeter
Schuster was lured from Australias Rugby Sevens to Manly in 2016 - a major coup
for the Sea Eagles. Australian-born but with a strong Samoan heritage, Schuster
is the latest in a rich bloodline of talent that includes his uncle John
Schuster - a dual international with 10 caps for the All Blacks, three for Samoa
and two rugby league Tests for Western Samoa.Schuster was discovered by Manly
great and former Aussie Sevens coach Michael OConnor in 2013 before going on to
represent the Australian under-19s and Samoa under-20s. He boasts natural flare,
explosive speed and can play fullback, wing and centre.Melbourne Storm - Curtis
ScottCurtis Scott is a former bricklayer now building a career in rugby league
and his glittering resume suggests he has already established a solid foundation
in which to do so. Born and bred in Sydneys Sutherland shire, Scott made the
bold move to leave his junior club in 2016 to further his career under the
guidance of Craig Bellamy at the Storm.The 19-years-old is comfortable at both
centre and wing and has already impressed many good judges with fine
performances for the New South Wales and Australian Schoolboys under-18s teams.
Scott made two NRL appearances at the start of 2016 before his season was cut
short with a broken leg in Round 4 - ironically against his former club the
Sharks.But it would seem a matter of when not if we see him back in the top
grade and with lingering doubts over Billy Slaters future, he may just become a
household name in 2017.Newcastle Knights - Ken TofilauKen Tofilau still
qualified for the Knights NYC side in 2016 but spent most of the season getting
accustomed to the faster pace of reserve grade. The highly rated Kiwi was the
named the Knights NYC Player of the Year in 2015, and was equally impressive
when promoted to NSW Cup where he played a leading role in Newcastles grand
final win and State Championship match.Blessed with blistering speed and
mesmerising footwork, Tofilau has represented NZ Residents 16s, NZ Residents 17s
and New Zealand U18s and Newcastle great and rugby league immortal Andrew Johns
is one of his biggest fans so a taste of NRL football in 2017 wouldnt come as a
shock.?New Zealand Warriors -?Mafoaaeata HinganoAta Hingano grew up playing with
Brad Abbey, the Bulldogs rookie identified earlier, and has already compiled a
strong resume that includes representing the Kiwis under-16s in 2012, under-18s
in 2014, the Warriors NYC Grand Final winners in 2015 as well as being named the
NRL clubs Rookie of the Year in 2016.Hingano made two NRL appearances 2016 and
while there are sure to be many more to come, however, they may not necessarily
be at the Warriors. The 19-years-old is a huge talent but with Shaun Johnson at
seven, the arrival of Kieran Foran to play five-eighth and Issac Luke at hooker,
his opportunities may be limited at the Warriors and there is speculation that
his head has been turned by interest from a rival club.North Queensland Cowboys
- Gideon Gela-MosbyGideon Gela-Mosby is blessed with lightning quick speed and
covers 100 metres in near-Olympic time of 10.24 seconds - an attribute that
helped him set a new tryscoring record of 39 tries in 22 games in the under-20s
competition in 2015.Hes been a regular junior representative player with
selection for Queensland under-16s and under-18s, Queensland Schoolboys and the
Australian Schoolboys teams. He quickly grabbed the attention of NRL fans with
two tries in nine minutes on debut at the 2016 Auckland Nines and similar
performances for the Cowboys in the regular competition are surely not far
away.Parramatta Eels -?Marata NiukoreMarata Niukore joined Parramatta from the
Warriors at the end of 2016 and the promising youngster threatens to be yet
another young star that managed to slip away from the Kiwi club.?Standing at 188
cms and weighing in at 102 kgs, the 21-year-old is comfortable playing in the
centres or the back-row and after a strong apprenticeship in the Warriors
highly-rated NYC team and two years with the Junior Kiwis, he is now considered
a strong contender to push for an NRL debut in 2017.Penrith Panthers - Oliver
ClarkPenrith is famous for its rugby league nursery and local junior Oliver
Clark looms as the next promising star off the production line.At 20-years-old,
the 2014 Australian Schoolboys prop stands at a towering 190cms and weighs in at
106kgs and was also a leading figure in the Panthers NYC side which won the 2015
Holden Cup Premiership.South Sydney Rabbitohs -?Tyrell FuimaonoTyrell Fuimaono
was one of Parramattas most promising forwards after a breakout season in the
NYC in 2016 but South Sydney snuck under the Eels guard to lure him to
Redfern.The 20-year-old will give the Rabbitohs some versatility with his size
and speed enabling him to play as an edge backrower or in the centres. The
Bunnies have parted company with a number of outside backs including Joe
Burgess, Kirisome Auvaa and Michael Oldfield so the former Junior Kangaroo and
Australian Schoolboy might just get a chance to make his NRL debut in 2017.St.
George Illawarra Dragons -?Luciano LeiluaHe made just four NRL appearances in
2016 but Luciano Leilua is possibly the hottest young commodity in the game. He
represented the Australian Schoolboys and NSW under-18s in 2014 but his
late-season NRL cameo has several rival clubs lining up for his signature.At
just 20-years-old, Leilua is already a monsterous 186 cms and 112 kgs and the
young backrower has the potential to establish himself as one of the Dragons
most destructive forwards.Sydney Roosters - Liam KnightLiam Knight is a player
with huge potential but he does come with some baggage. A serious off-field
indiscretion has over-shadowed his on-field performances to date and while he
represents a risk for the Roosters, he is definitely a risk worth taking.Knight
is long-striding forward who can play lock, second row and front row - he is
blessed with an off-load, a good turn of speed for a big man and is bruising in
defence. The Alice Springs-born Knight turns 22 in 2017 and after making his NRL
debut with Manly in 2016, it wouldnt come as a major surprise to see him cement
a regular place in the Roosters forward pack over the next 12 months.?Wests
Tigers -?Jacob LiddleThe Tigers have a number of promising young cubs in their
ranks - forwards JJ Felise and Esan Marsters will all push for promotion but
with Robbie Farah moving on, it would appear that the best opportunity may well
fall for hooker Jacob Liddle.The 20-year-old is gifted with his great speed and
vision and after having a taste of NRL against the Bulldogs in 2016, the 2014
Australian Schoolboy could establish himself as a regular member of the NRL
team.

after witnessing an emotional senior day that Canadian Andrew Wiggins was
considering Kansas, even if the Jayhawks coach was in the dark like everyone
else while the superstar recruit made certain of his future. For one thing,
Wiggins saw on that visit in March just how beloved players are at Kansas, where
icons such as James Naismith and Phog Allen have become deified. The
six-foot-eight Vaughan, Ont., native also saw just how many players were
departing. Four senior starters delivered farewell addresses that night. A few
weeks later, star freshman Ben McLemore announced he would be declaring for the
NBA draft, leaving the nine-time defending Big 12 champions looking for a bunch
of guys to plug into the lineup next season. Undoubtedly, Wiggins saw in Kansas
a place where he could shine. "I just felt like that was the place for me," the
consensus No. 1-ranked recruit said after announcing his college intentions
Tuesday in Huntington, W.Va. "Going to college will get me better mentally and
physically in the game of basketball." Wiggins chose the Jayhawks over overtures
from Kentucky, North Carolina and Florida State, where both of his parents
attended and one of his teammates will be playing next season. "I felt like
there was a connection," Self said, "but basically, he picked a good night to
visit. He visited on senior day and kind of saw what this was all about, a game
that wasnt a huge high-intensity game, but a game he was able to see how players
are beloved here." Widely considered the next LeBron James -- though Self
compared him more closely to Tracy McGrady -- Wiggins initially was part of the
2014 class, but was immediately raised to the top of this years recruiting
market when he decided to reclassify. Wiggins averaged more than 23 points and
11 rebounds while leading Huntington Prep School in West Virginia to a 30-3
record last season. He also dazzled scouts, most of which knew they had no
chance of landing him, at the McDonalds All-American Game and Jordan Brand
Classic. The entire recruitment of Wiggins was unlike anything college
basketball has seen. Sure, hes the kind of transcendent talent that in bygone
days could have jumped straight to the NBA, and that alone makes him unique. But
by nature, hes a soft-spoken kid who cares little for the spotlight. So while
other top recruits string along the public before making their college decision,
Wiggins kept his thoughts largely to himself throughout the process. Self said
he texted Wiggins on Tuesday morning to wish him luck, and received a text back
from the small forward saying, "Thank you." But besides that, Self had barely
spoken with Wiggins in the final tense days of his recruitment.dddddddddddd
Wiggins revealed his choice at a small ceremony at his prep school. Self didnt
even know hed won the recruiting derby until he received a phone call from a
reporter. "There wasnt jubilation like youd think," Self said. "It was kind of a
surreal feeling. I was so happy, but at the same time, it was almost a humble
happiness, and so proud we were able to land Andrew to go with whats already a
terrific recruiting class." Along with losing McLemore, whos expected to be an
NBA lottery pick, the Jayhawks are also losing star centre Jeff Withey, forward
Kevin Young and veteran guards Elijah Johnson and Travis Releford, who have
never known anything but winning conference championships. Kansas has a few
reserves returning, including junior guard Naadir Tharpe and sophomore forward
Perry Ellis, a five-star prospect that finally caught on late last season. But
the Jayhawks will be dominated by newcomers as they chase their 10th straight
Big 12 championship next year. Wiggins is the headliner, but 6-5 Wayne Seldon
from Tilton (N.H.) School is the second-rated shooting guard in the country.
Seven-footer Joel Embiid from The Rock School in Gainesville, Fla., is the
third-rated centre. Guards Connor Frankamp from Wichita, Kan., and Brannen
Greene from Tifton, Ga., are in the top 10 at their positions, and point guard
Frank Mason from Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Va., has steadily
climbed into the nations top 100 recruits. "If anything," Self said, "it gets me
excited to go to work." Wiggins said the most difficult part of his decision was
informing the three other finalists that hed be going elsewhere. As for why he
chose Kansas, well, hes keeping most of those reasons private, though he did say
having his older brother Nick Wiggins at Wichita State was nice. His father,
former NBA player Mitchell Wiggins, said fit was also a big part of it. "He
liked their system. A lot of pro offence, the pick and roll," the elder Wiggins
said. "The system is probably the biggest thing, and Coach Self is a pretty good
coach." Self is the first to admit he wouldnt be nearly as successful if it
wasnt for his players -- thats where it all starts, of course. But in luring
Wiggins to Kansas, even Self acknowledged hes never coached another player like
him. "He doesnt really fit the mould of some of the guys weve had in the past,"
Self said. "Hes a tremendous talent and a terrific kid. Probably an even better
kid than he is a talent. We think he has a chance to be about as good a prospect
as weve ever had."
