导出博客文章ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Blues know one of the biggest things missing in their
games so far this season has been the ugly goals, the rebounds and deflections
that come from putting a lot of traffic in front of the net. They finally were
able to score some of those goals in a 4-1 win over Buffalo on Tuesday, and they
hope they can do it again on Thursday night when they host the San Jose
Sharks. It will be the first contest between the two teams since the Sharks
eliminated the Blues in six games in the Western Conference final in May.Thats
always the goal, left winger Jaden Schwartz said of scoring ugly goals. I think
we needed to be better with the puck everywhere, especially through the neutral
zone and tighten up defensively a little bit and check for our chances a little
more. I thought we did a good job, I thought we created a lot of turnovers on
the forecheck that allowed us to get a lot of O-zone time.Neither right winger
Alexander Steen nor right winger Vladimir Tarasenko participated in the Blues
practice on Wednesday. Steen had to leave Tuesday nights game after a hard check
into the boards, and Tarasenko also was banged up in the contest.Coach Ken
Hitchcock called it a maintenance day for both players.Hopefully well have both
of them in the lineup fresh and ready to go, Hitchcock said. (Tarasenko) needed
a maintenance day. Both guys needed it. We decided to switch it up and have a
full practice today and it wouldnt have done them any good so, well get them
ready for tomorrow. Both guys. The Sharks suffered a 1-0 loss at Carolina on
Tuesday night, with coach Peter DeBoer saying the team did not generate enough
scoring chances. You have to put pucks in good places and then you have to win
battles, and we didnt do enough of either, DeBoer said.DeBoer tried to shake up
his forward lines in the third period and it is possible they could go with
different combinations against the Blues.I dont think anyone up front was
generating much, center Logan Couture told the San Jose Mercury-News. When thats
the case, coach usually tries to get a spark somehow and he certainly has the
right to do that. The Blues have made a lot of changes since they lost played the
Sharks, with captain David Backes signing with Boston as a free agent, Troy
Brouwer joining Calgary and Brian Elliott shuffled to the Flames, but the
players who remain will be motivated for the game.Theyre still one of the teams
we have to worry about in this conference, defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk said.
They didnt lose many guys from last year and have a very solid forward group. Im
sure theres going to be a little bit of a bad taste in our mouth from last year.

29-year-old Baines has established himself as one of the top attacking full
backs in the country and was the subject of two bids from United during the last
off-season. Everton manager Roberto Martinez says that keeping Baines at the
club is a "massive boost and exciting for the future" because he brings
"maturity and football knowledge in a very specialized position on the pitch"
and an "infectious and positive influence to the rest of the squad.

Cougars survived an 8-7 win against the Kamloops Blazers in Western Hockey
League play Sunday. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jose Abreu is reaching some significant
milestones with others in reach, but they are not transitioning into a winning
record for the Chicago White Sox.Abreu homered in an 8-3 loss to the Kansas City
Royals on Monday, becoming the first player in White Sox history to hit at least
25 home runs in his first three major league seasons.Abreu needs five home runs
and four RBI to join Albert Pujols as the only players in major league history
with 30 home runs and 100 RBI in their first three seasons. The homer total may
be difficult to reach with only a dozen games left on the schedule.I think thats
something I can accomplish, but, I mean, of course its tough because of the
short amount of games that we have, but, of course, its in the picture, Abreu
said through a translator. Im just glad that I have this opportunity, because
after what I passed through the first half, the second half has been very
good.Abreu has turned it up several notches, reaching base in 42 of his past 45
games, hitting .370 with a .417 on-base percentage and a .641 slugging
percentage. He has 14 home with 40 RBI in that span, which began August 2.The
Royals went 14-5 against the White Sox this year. Its tough playing against them
because we have to play perfect, Abreu said. They have all the ingredients to be
a successful team, and I think that everybody has seen that. They won the World
Series last year and they are a very tough team. I think that its desire. Their
desire to win, their hunger to win games and to be good. And for me that is the
main point for them.Yordano Ventura (11-11) gave up nine hits, struck out five
and walked one, picking up his first complete-game victory.Ventura had allowed
10 runs, 17 hits and six walks in 11 1/3 innings in losing his previous two
starts. He threw only 16 pitches in a 10-batter span to end the fifth and into
the seventh.Kendrys Morales homered off Carlos Rodon (7-10) in a four-run fifth.
Morales homerred in back-to-back games, bringing his total to 29.dddddddddddd
The last Royal to hit 30 home runs in a season was Jermaine Dye, with 33 in
2000.Theyre a good ballclub, Rodon said. Guys that have been in the game for a
while and just understand that, make me throw pitches and get deep in the count,
and they did a really good job of that. They swing the bat well, but our guys
swung the bat well, too. Some hard balls hit and some home runs, and thats
baseball.Paulo Orlando and Alcides Escobar homered in the second for the Royals.
Eric Hosmer drove in two runs with a pair of singles, giving him 97 RBI.Billy
Burns had three hits, was hit by a pitch, stole a base and scored two
runs.Carlos Sanchez also homered for the White Sox.It wasnt our day, Sanchez
said. When a pitcher has his day its tough for us to hit.Todd Frazier added an
RBI single and had two hits off Ventura.Hes throwing 97, 98 (mile per hour),
Frazier said late in the game. Thats tough to pick up, tough to lay off, too, as
well, because it looks like a strike and comes off. He had good command,
basically.TRAINERS ROOMWhite Sox: INF Tyler Saladino (sore left calf) was out of
the lineup for the third consecutive game. We could play him, but I think an
extra day would be best for him, White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. ... DH
Justin Morneau (neck discomfort) returned to the lineup after missing the
previous six games and went 2 for 4 with a double and scored a run.UP NEXTWhite
Sox: RHP James Shields, who is 0-5 with a 9.37 ERA in his past nine starts, will
start Tuesday at Philadelphia. RHP Jake Thompson will start for the
Phillies.Royals: RHP Edinson Volquez, who gave up nine runs on seven hits and
four walks in 3 1/3 innings in a Thursday loss to Oakland, will start the series
opener at Cleveland. The Indians will counter with RHP Josh Tomlin. ' ' '
