capital, but both cities should prepare to welcome another contender to the
debate after the Brisbane Global Tens was unveiled on Thursday.It may not be the
AFL or NRL grand final, Australian Open or Formula One Grand Prix, but in a
tournament set to blast off in February next year, Brisbane has secured the best
available local rugby product, combined it with an international feel and
tweaked the format for maximum entertainment.Its a blend between sevens and 15s
so I think its going to allow us to utilise a bit of structure, but at the same
time play at a fast pace, code-hopper Karmichael Hunt said of the
format.Fourteen of the worlds best provincial rugby teams will descend on
Brisbane next year with all five of Australia and New Zealands Super Rugby
franchises confirmed, as well as South African powerhouse, the Bulls, French
giants Toulon, Japans Panasonic Wild Knights and Samoa.Played over two days at
Suncorp Stadium, organisers, Duco Events, are hoping for capacity crowds on both
days and with a large New Zealand community in Brisbane, there is no reason why
they cant get them.State of Origin may be king in Queensland, but a two-day
global rugby feast at the start of the year will see Brisbane join both Sydney
and Melbourne with international events early on the calendar.While it wont
concern those behind the Brisbane event, organisers of the Sydney 7s - which
launched with such a bang early in 2016 and will be played the week before the
Tens next year - may be a little nervy given the headline acts that could
potentially turn out at Suncorp.The 10 Super Rugby sides have reportedly agreed
to field their best available squads, while it is also hoped each franchise will
bring its entire playing roster and use the week in Brisbane as preparation for
the Super Rugby season proper.Its going to be great watching, guys turning out
like Izzy Folau, Matt Giteau, Maa Nonu, rising Waratahs star Andrew Kellaway
told ESPN.Its going to be awesome to watch and to play in, to test ourselves
against those guys, its not something you get to do when they go overseas. So
its going to be a great experience.As for its close proximity to the Sydney 7s,
Kellaway was adamant both events could coexist.I hope it doesnt overshadow it
because the Sydney 7s is a great event, and I think it wouldnt be doing either
of them justice to have one overshadow the other, Kellaway told ESPN.I think
keeping them separate and exclusive events is going to be great, not only for
rugby, but for both of the events because in their own right they are going to
be both great events.With the extra space on offer, the scope for entertaining
rugby - that retains the games structural integrity - is infinite.The big men
will still have a place on the field in Brisbane, even if the Tens will be a
more natural fit for guys like Quade Cooper - who Reds General Manager Daniel
Herbert hopes to unveil in the next few days - and Chiefs young gun Damien

Chiefs star Charlie Ngatai told ESPN.A lot of other Kiwi players as well like

enough to pull in the neutral crowd, or Brisbanes rugby league diehards, the
Tens may well feature Sonny Bill Williams.It will be good, Sonnys an incredible

the Blues, especially for all the young boys there and just the professional

event and one capable of enhancing Brisbanes sporting reputation locally, but
