recovered from a foot injury and ready to be put on St. The All Blacks say prop
Owen Franks place in Test rugby world record book should come with some fine
print.Franks is 80 minutes away from the longest career without scoring a
try. This weeks Rugby Championship Test against the Springboks has a touch of
desperation about it for a far more unlikely source as well, with prolific
winger Julian Savea never having crossed the stripe against South Africa.Savea
has scored 42 tries in 46 Tests, yet he has been unable to touch down in six
games against the Springboks. But its Franks whos been the focus ahead of
Saturdays match in Christchurch, the loosehead prop level with retired Italian
front-rower Salvatore Perugini on 83 Tests without a five-pointer - meaning the
New Zealander will own the record outright if he fails to score on the
weekend. All Blacks teammates can see the funny side of the record but also feel
some empathy for the 28-year-old. They say his roole in countless tries to
others goes ignored.ddddddddddddFellow-Cantabrian Ryan Crotty believes Franks
should feel like a central cog in New Zealands attack because of his scrummaging
prowess.I dont know how many set-piece tries the All Blacks have scored off a
solid scrum platform, Crotty said.Im sure he takes satisfaction in that. Its
acknowledged, what he does for this team.Since Franks debut against Italy in
2009, the All Blacks have racked up 383 tries.Crotty admits there were some
chuckles when Franks bench replacement Charlie Faumuina scored moments after
coming on during last weeks win over Argentina. It could well have been Owen if
he was still on the field. If we see him on a nice line this week, well be
looking for him and try to send him through under the sticks.
